Fraud Investigation

On August 7, 2018 the Medicine Hat Police Service Major Crimes Section concluded a six‐month
fraud investigation, which resulted in 45‐year‐old, Rolf Traichel, of Medicine Hat, AB, being
charged with several fraud and fraud related offences. The offences are alleged to have occurred
between 2010 and 2016, and have resulted in a loss to the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education, in excess of $1 million.

Mr. Traichel was a member of the Medicine Hat Police Commission from January 2012, until his
term expired in December, 2017. The matter was first reported to the Medicine Hat Police Service
for investigation in January 2018. Based on the investigation to date, it is believed that the
alleged fraud was isolated to the one organization. Mr. Traichel has been released on his own
recognizance with conditions with a court appearance scheduled in Provincial Court at Medicine
Hat on September 11th 2018.
