St. Mary’s School Launches Sports and Wellness Academy for the 2025-2026 school year!

Posted on Jan 16, 2025

St. Mary’s School is known for its inclusive nature and welcoming environment for students. A place for everyone!

  • Programs for everyone
  • Extracurriculars for everyone
  • Support for everyone

Complementing the three programs currently available at St. Mary’s School, they will offer a Sports & Wellness Academy for students in grades 7-9 beginning in the fall of 2025. The program aims to inspire active, balanced lives through multi-sport experiences, guided by Faith and community.

Students will develop skills through a wide range of sports, activities, and educational modules. These modules and activities may include, but are not limited to, swimming, skating, yoga, volleyball, basketball, track and field, tennis, outdoor education, sports psychology, nutrition in sports, kinesiology, taping, and more!

The lasting impact:

  • Encourages healthy lifestyles and risk-taking in positive ways.
  • Builds lifelong community connections.
  • Nurtures resilience, confidence, and well-rounded growth.

The decision to implement a Sports and Wellness Academy at St. Mary’s stems from the school’s commitment to honoring the unique focuses of their feeder schools, St. Michael’s School and St. Francis Xavier School, as all three schools prepare for the upcoming transition into Holy Trinity Academy (fall 2027).

St. Michael’s students benefit from a strong fine arts emphasis, which seamlessly transitions into St. Mary’s existing Fine Arts Academy. To complement this, St. Mayr’s School aims to carry forward the athletic focus of St. FX Sports and Wellness Academy through the establishment of the St. Mary’s Sports and Wellness Academy.

Introducing this program now allows time to build a solid foundation, refine its structure, and align it with the broader vision of Holy Trinity Academy, prior to the physical school move. This approach ensures that the distinct identities and strengths of both elementary schools are reflected and celebrated at the junior high level, fostering continuity and enriching opportunities for all students.

Learn more about the program at St. Mary’s Open House on January 23 from 6:30-8:30 PM or visit https://www.stmarymh.ca/ to learn more.
