Positive COVID-19 Cases: St. Michael's School

UPDATE: March 31, 2021

Alberta Health Services have now identified 5 cases of COVID-19 in individuals from St. Michael’s School. This is considered an outbreak. In consultation with AHS and out of an abundance of caution Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education has decided to close St. Michael's School Thursday, April 1st and will reopen following the Easter break on Monday, April 12th. 

Please note that all close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and contacted. Those close contacts are required to quarantine for 14 days. While all of the cases were identified at the school, it has been determined that there was no spread within the school.

Letter to St. Michael's Parents/Guardians re: Multiple COVID-19 Cases

Alberta Health Services have now identified three additional cases of COVID-19 in individuals from St. Michael’s School - for a total of four cases.

Please note that all close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and contacted. Those close contacts are required to quarantine for 14 days. 

At this time St. Michael’s will remain open and all unaffected classes are permitted to continue. We will continue to work directly with and follow the recommendations of AHS.

Our custodial team has completed an enhanced cleaning of the school to ensure that all areas have been sanitized.

As a reminder, if your child has any of the core symptoms listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist (https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-testing-in-alberta.aspx), please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and keep your child at home. We will continue to provide additional information to parents/guardians as it is available.

Alberta Health Services has identified a case of COVID-19 in an individual from St. Michael’s School. We are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff members. AHS has indicated that the school and unaffected classes are permitted to continue.

Please note that all close contacts of the positive case have been identified and contacted.

We remind parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. The Alberta Health daily checklists can be found at https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-testing-in-alberta.aspx. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school.

As a reminder, if your child has any of the core symptoms listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and keep your child at home. We will continue to provide additional information to parents/guardians as it is available.

Our custodial team will complete an enhanced cleaning of the school, focusing on areas where the individual was present along with all high touch points and surface areas throughout the school.
