Monsignor McCoy High School Athletes Continue to Shine in Post-Secondary Football

March 19, 2025 – Today marks an exciting milestone for the Monsignor McCoy Colts football program as one of their own, Baker Thompson, officially signed a scholarship with the University of Calgary Dinos football team. Baker is one of six talented athletes from McCoy and Eagle Butte High Schools who will be continuing their football careers at the post-secondary level.

This is the first time since 2022 that the Colts football program has produced a top recruit to advance to university football, and the celebration today highlighted the hard work, dedication, and success of the student-athletes involved.

“Baker is an exceptional player, and we’re thrilled to see him take the next step in his football journey with the University of Calgary Dinos,” said a representative from the Colts football program. “His commitment is a reflection of the effort and skill he has shown both on and off the field. We’re incredibly proud of his achievements.”

The Colts football program has been busy this off-season, with athletes putting in countless hours at in-house training sessions hosted at both McCoy High School and Eagle Butte High School. Additionally, players have been working with the Foundations Training Center in Medicine Hat to elevate their game in preparation for the upcoming season. The program capped off last season with a strong 9-2 record and captured the Jerry Dawson Memorial B-Side Championship, proving that the hard work is paying off.

In recent years, the Colts have had the privilege of sending several athletes to post-secondary football programs, where they have been able to excel both academically and athletically. The following athletes will continue their football careers this year or in the near future:

• Kai Kukurudza (McCoy Grad 2022) – Signed with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies after playing for the Saskatoon Hilltops.
• Xavier Buekert (McCoy Grad 2022) – Currently playing for the Calgary Colts Junior Football Program.
• Baker Thompson (McCoy Grad 2025) – Will play for the University of Calgary Dinos upon graduation.
• Jaxon Daniels (McCoy Grad 2025) – Will suit up for the Prince George Kodiaks Junior Football Program this fall.
• Carsen McDonald (Eagle Butte Grad 2025) – Will play for the University of Montana Northern Lights.
• Hudson Mastel (Eagle Butte Grad 2025) – Will also play for the University of Montana Northern Lights.
• Kohen Osadzuk (Eagle Butte Grad 2025) – Will play for the Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs team in California.
• Reid Vossler (Eagle Butte Grad 2025) – Will play for the Calgary Colts Junior Football Team.

The Colts program is well on its way to becoming a powerhouse, building a legacy of success that will inspire future athletes to follow in these footsteps. With such talent on display, the future of Monsignor McCoy football is undoubtedly bright.
