Alberta Education Funding for Numeracy and Literacy
Posted on May 28, 2021On Friday, May 28, the Government of Alberta announced that they will be providing up to $45 million in new funding to school jurisdictions to provide supports for students who require extra help with literacy and numeracy after two school years of pandemic-impacted learning.
The targeted programming is based on feedback from superintendents from school divisions throughout the province on how to best support early learners. Starting this fall, the investment will help jump-start targeted literacy and numeracy programs, key areas where some younger children (grades 1-3) are experiencing challenges.
"The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education welcomes additional funding to address gaps in learning caused by the pandemic," says Dwayne Zarichny, Superintendent of Schools. "We look forward to working with students and parents this fall to ensure that these gaps have been mitigated."
